July Drop

Stocks finished the week with mixed results on Friday as profit reports trickled in along with Friday's economic data that showed consumer confidence dropped in the middle of July.

For the week, the NYSE dropped 2.56% while the NASDAQ slipped 2.25%. 

Since March 23, 2009, when the NLX NYSE turned Bullish, the NYSE has gained 8.52%.  

Since July 7, 2009, when the NLX NASDAQ turned Bearish, the NASDAQ has gained .56%.

Perilous

Technology stocks cut their losses in late trading on the Monday after the Independence Day long weekend holiday. The tech heavy NASDAQ Composite put in a mixed trading day mainly due to concerns about how large tech companies will fare as the impending earnings season develops.

Fireworks

A surprisingly weak jobs report sank U.S. financial markets on Thursday. 

Financial markets in the U.S. will be closed Friday in observance of Independence Day.

For the holiday shortened trading week, the NYSE dropped 2.23% while the NASDAQ lost 2.27%. 

Since 3/23/09, when the NLX NYSE turned Bullish, the NYSE has gained 11.37%.  

Since 3/18/09, when the NLX NASDAQ turned Bullish, the NASDAQ has gained 20.47%.

Worries

The market pulled mostly lower Friday, with the broad market tallying a second week of declines, after a rise in the U.S. savings rate prompted worries about reduced consumer spending.

For the week, the NYSE fell .46% while the NASDAQ gained .59%.

Recovery?

The market was relatively quiet Friday despite it being a "quadruple witching" day, as traders squared positions ahead of big data due next week that will help validate or nullify the idea that the economy is recovering.
 
For the week, the NYSE fell 3.49% while the NASDAQ retreated 1.69%.

Losses for technology, energy and basic-materials stocks pulled major U.S. stock indexes back from significant milestones as a computer glitch at the New York Stock Exchange halted floor trading of more than 200 stocks.

For the week, the NYSE jumped 1.08% while the NASDAQ edged up .51%.

Bulls Still In Control

U.S. stocks finished Friday roughly where they began as encouraging signs from the May jobs report lifted a string of industrials.

For the week, the NYSE rose 1.31% while the NASDAQ surged 4.23%.

May Gains

A choppy session ended with a late surge Friday as investors pushed some of the stronger companies of May and surging commodities prices drove another rally for materials companies.

For the Memorial Day shortened trading week, the NYSE jumped 3.70% while the NASDAQ outdueled gaining a healthy 4.87%.
